January 11, 2017 – Welcome to SPROUT OT!

Welcome!

Happy New Year! Welcome to my website and thanks for your interest in SPROUT Occupational Therapy! For my first blog post, I want to introduce myself and tell you a little bit more about me. I also want to share some ideas for future blog posts and therapy interventions that can be implemented at home. Please share your thoughts with me too! I look forward to your feedback as it can help me develop important topics to discuss in future posts.

Meet Tracey

I grew up in a small town in Louisiana, the youngest of five kids. I attended college at Indiana University in Bloomington where I obtained a degree in Journalism and Apparel Merchandising. After graduation, I accepted my first “big girl” job in Indianapolis, IN and it didn’t take me long to figure out that the career path I was on was not fulfilling for me. I spent some time trying to figure out what I wanted to do and I kept coming back to the idea of working with children with disabilities. During my teenage years, I volunteered at a camp in Mississippi for kids with physical disabilities. In college, I volunteered for community events for individuals with disabilities. The personal satisfaction I got from these experiences shaped my career as a future occupational therapist.

I moved to Nashville for graduate school where I received a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy in 2012. Since that time, I have worked in different settings including skilled nursing, adult acute care, pediatric acute care and outpatient pediatrics. Through my experience, I have noticed a large gap in coverage for OT services for children with mild to severe challenges. I saw first hand that many insurance companies were not covering services for a range of diagnoses if the deficits didn’t fit within a certain criteria. As an OT, I believe in being an active advocate for my patients and for individuals of the community I serve. This knowledge influenced me to take action and this is how SPROUT was born.

The SPROUT Plan

I look forward to providing private one-on-one and group therapy intervention to children in our community from birth through the teenage years. Through my blog, I hope to provide you and your child with effective suggestions and activities to address some physical, emotional, or developmental challenges he/she may face. I also plan to offer insight to parents addressing age-appropriate developmental milestones for babies and toddlers. To add an element of fun, I will offer some kid-friendly, yummy recipes, so you don’t always feel like a short order cook to appease your picky eater.

I am excited to begin this new venture and look forward to hearing from you! I appreciate all the support from my family, friends, and colleagues over the past year as I was developing this business concept. I am so lucky to surround myself with such caring and encouraging individuals. Last but not least, I have to thank my dear husband, Joseph, for inspiring me to follow my dreams. His savvy tech and business knowledge has been a huge benefit. I could not have done this alone, so again thank you to everyone who has helped me along this journey!
